Dynamic Earth Simulation Laboratory

University of Alabama

Department of Geological Sciences

We are a research group at the University of Alabama in the Department of Geological Sciences. Our mission is to simulation Earth's dynamic processes for two distinct, but overlapping objectives: 1) as a mechanism to learn about the world around us, and 2) as a utility for making predictions of real future scenarios (forecasts) and hypothetical scenarios that can inform actions.

Our work involves close collaboration with the U.S. National Water Center and the Alabama Water Institute, leveraging partnerships to tackle pressing challenges in hydrology and geophysical modeling.

Our current projects focus on integrating machine learning and data assimilation techniques into the National Water Model, enhancing its predictive capabilities and utility for water resource management.
